The herd was founded in 1999 by purchasing cows and calves from the Milnafua, Dirnanean and Romar herds.  There are currently 16 pedigree breeding females in the herd which is managed with mostly Sim X cows, on a completely commercial basis.

The whole herd has been part of the SAC Premium Health Scheme since 1999 and is accredited free from Johnes disease and BVD.  Cattle in the herd have no direct contact with other cattle as they are situated in a walled estate together with cereal and equine livery enterprises.

All cattle, both cross and pure-bred, are out-wintered mainly on straw and grass silage, with only young stock being supplemented with home grown cereals.

Cows are only housed during the calving period, which is mainly January and February, after which cows and calves are turned back out at the earliest opportunity allowing for weather conditions.  This system places great emphasis on production from forage and all cattle on the farm are naturally grown.

Mainly home-bred bulls are used for breeding along with some AI sires.  Our senior stock bull WoodHall Promoter is being used on daughters of Auchendinny Leader, a Ravensworth Carefree son, is breeding well and the majority of his progeny, cross and pure-bred, are grading well along with impressive weights at slaughter.

The AI sires used include Scottish Neff, Camus Fronteir, Camus Brandy, Hockenhull Maverick and Ravensworth Carefree.
